In front of Tangent Project, an art gallery in Hospitalet, there is the site dedicated to Hypericum perforatum, also known as devil’s wort or witches’ wort. The plant has been used as a medicinal herb for more than 2000 years. It has been used as an antidepressant, an antiseptic, an anti-inflammatory, an expectorant and a booster for the immune system. Nowadays, and mainly in the USA, the UK and Germany, Hypericum perforatum is widely used for the treatment of mild and moderate depression. According to researchers, the plant’s effect must be equivalent to that of amitriptyline, fluoxetine or maprotiline, and is clearly more potent than a placebo. Inspired by the plant’s use in magical rituals, and in conjunction with the point activation, there is Aguas de afectos.

To celebrate the night of San Juan and reconnect with its magical tradition of floral waters, Guerrilla Drugstore invites the artistic community of La Escocesa to Aguas de afecto, a gathering of witches That come come together to create floral waters based on affective plant memories. St. John’s water is used in folklore for love and prosperity rituals and is created with different herbs and flowers including hypericum, one of Guerrilla Drugstore’s remedies, also known as St. John’s wort, devil’s wort or witches’ wort. Inspired by this floral water tradition and the power of water to transmit information and memories, the ritual aims to create magical waters through which share and interconnect our memories and affections for plant beings.
To celebrate the ritual, I asked the participants to bring a herb, vegetable or fruit that they are very fond of and have vivid memories of.
