Oscura – Obscure– is the name of an alliance. Protagonists are the plant artemisia and Ideas Destroying Muros, a transcultural art group based in Valencia and rooted in community-based artistic creation. For the experimentation of the alliance, something simple and yet mysterious guides us: to plant artemisia and then nourish ourselves with her teaching. Literally. Organic learning. We sow the seeds, take care of the plant, drink it, take mother tincture, and finally, burn the plant to be guided by its smoke and smell. This organic learning practice led to another practice. Making and undoing knots. We spent our artistic residency at La Escocesa in the company of artemisia. We tied, untied, “weaved” the space with ropes, bodies, words… Besides this crochet methodology we experimented with the formula “I don’t want any more”. We repeat it like a mantra until our hands incorporate the phrase in our gestures. In traditional Chinese medicine, the power of “no” is associated with the metal element that creates space from limits and thus makes relationships possible. In a world dominated by the slogan “there are no limits” (while the planet’s resources are limited) we thought it was a good start for our alliance reconnecting with the limit.
